I’M DEBT FREE!!!!

Okay okay…maybe I’m not completely debt free, but I am darn near close after adopting the teachings of my favorite financial advisor. For those of you that have read my post on building an emergency savings fund, you saw my plug on Dave Ramsey. There are a lot of financial gurus out there like Clark Howard and Suze Orman, but Dave Ramsey’s personal testimony and straightforward approach really resonate with me. Dave was a young hot shot! At the age of 26 he amassed a net worth of over $1 million and was making $250K a year. For those of you that don’t know…that’s roughly $20K a month POST-TAX income. However, his empire was built on short-term real estate debt and eventually it all caught up with him and he lost it all. After this event, he really learned how to deal with money and vowed to never be in …

How to Make it in NY: A Frugal Student’s Travel Guide

I just left NYC and I had an amazing time. Sure I saw some street performers pretend to do an entire puppet show rendition of ‘Cats’ on the Subway. Yes I was surrounded by tons of foreign tourists and sat in taxis during traffic jams. But you just gotta love NY. Seriously though, I was born and raised 40 miles outside of ‘The City’ as we Bridge and Tunnel folks like to call it. But every time I’ve visited since I moved away for college, I’ve felt just like a tourist. But I’m a crafty tourist. I travel to NYC like a college student. I try to have the most fun I can for the least amount of money. NYC is known for being a really expensive place. However if you know what you’re doing you can travel there without messing up your leisure budget. So here’s a souvenir for …

Who is Gen Y??

We are young. We are smart. We are confident. We work hard, but we play harder. Some of us even wear flip flops and iPods to work. Who are we? WE…ARE…SPARTA!! Okay, that was a joke taken from the movie 300, but we are Generation Y (often called Millennials). Those of us born from about 1980 to the year 2000. Roughly 70 million of us have parents from the Veteran, Baby Boomer, and X generations who pampered, prepped, and nurtured us from the beginning to take on this brave new world. We have been bred to be individuals and to be inquisitive about life. We challenged our parents and now we are challenging our employers. Growing up with technology and the Internet, the status quo is one stone that we definitely won’t leave unturned. Check out a list of 7 items below highlighting characteristics of our amazing generation of people …

I Wanna Be A Business Owner So Freaking Bad: dangerousNEGRO Apparel

When I was in undergrad I dreamed of being an entrepreneur one day. I thought of a few great ideas: Dorm Cleaning Service…..Documentary Filmmaker…..Life Coach for the freshmenMy ideas never came to fruition until now (dorms are too disgusting…documentaries take forever to make…freshmen want advice for free). Even though it didn’t work out for me, I always admired the people who did start successful businesses in college.I decided to interview one of the owners of my favorite t-shirt company, dangerousNEGRO Apparel to see what it was like to start a business in college. Tre Baker and his friends began their company in undergrad and I discovered their t-shirt line at an Engineering Conference back in 2006. Tre describes the business as: “A method of spreading positive propaganda. T-shirts are like walking billboards, you might as well advertise something positive and meaningful every once in a while.”Lets see what he has …
